Memorial Day Thoughts…

This weekend, many of us will be enjoying a long weekend that is often filled with family gatherings. We all look forward to times with special people. I also think most people associate this long weekend as an unofficial start to our summer season. I always chuckle when I hear that on news programs because very often for those of us this far north…it doesn’t feel like summer weather! I have a feeling that will hold true for this year. Tornadoes in Michigan this past weekend were a GREAT reminder of precious life.  So instead, I thought I would focus on the real MEANING of Memorial Day and how it relates to our SOUL.

We KNOW in our country we need to hold HONOR for all of those that have given their lives! I’ve appreciated my son putting his life on line each time he deploys to a difficult region. It’s been heart wrenching. And I give thanks for all of those that have done that and not been able to return to their families. My heart goes out to all of those left behind…even KNOWING that their loved one is alive and well in another form. The reality is that too many loved ones that have lost someone have no idea of these ideas. So… do we ALL feel the need to share the good news to anyone in need as often as possible? I PLAN every day to do that as often as I am able! How about YOU?

Marj and I love our lives, KNOWING and living with the knowledge that loved ones remain with us even once they’ve departed their physical life. We live in the freedom to choose our thoughts, actions, and beliefs every minute of every day! Even in the most difficult places in and around our world where persecution is rampant, every person can and does choose their thoughts. It’s actually a bit scary to realize that I have actually CHOSEN to think and embrace concepts…even when I did not believe in them. I can only look back in my life and say, ” I THOUGHT God dictated to other people smarter and more educated than me and so I need to take on ‘THEIR’ beliefs.” Wow…what a learning curve! Now I KNOW beyond any shadow of doubt that my own beliefs can work just right for me.

I only bring this up today so each of us can truly step back and realize without a shadow of doubt that we have the FREEDOM to think and believe in our own way. There are SO many people around us who have not yet realized any of this. I am realizing more and more how important it is to simply speak up about the TRUTH that I know! Each and every day we DO and CAN make a difference in another person’s life.

Enjoy the KNOWING that you have the FREEDOM to BE  yourself in any way you choose. We hope you enjoy your HOLIDAY weekend in whatever way you choose knowing that there is NOT any wrong way to do so. God loves us unconditionally regardless of our choices. Marj is headed up to her “summer home” in Eagle River which is always a huge but FUN undertaking. I have my older brother arriving for the week from Hawaii…so I am taking a week away to BE ME… refreshed and renewed. Our stories will be a remembrance focused on our memories of younger brother Bill … who lives on in every way we KNOW.
