Did you KNOW your HEART Has Intelligence?

…the “Little Brain in the Heart”
“In 1991, ….A team of scientists, led by Dr. J. Andrew Armour of the University of Montreal, discovered that about 40,000 specialized neurons, called sensory neurites, form a communication network within the heart itself…what makes this discovery so exceptional is that the neurites in the heart duplicate many of the same functions found in the brain.”

Gregg Braden, Resilience from the Heart: The Power to Thrive in Life’s Extremes, pg. 12.

Gregg goes on to explain that in simple terms, his team discovered what has become known as the “little brain” in the heart. I found it fascinating that the key role of the brain in the heart is to detect changes within the body (like levels of hormones & chemicals) so it can communicate this information to the brain. Then our brain and the heart can work together to solve a “problem”. There is a whole new field of study due to this called neurocardiology. It’s so new my spell checker wants to change the word! What is so exciting to me is that they have proven that our heart’s brain is  more powerful than our brain! They have also proven memory is stored there.  This can set in motion your intuition about what is happening in your body! If we listen and act, this is powerful for our health.

Following my NDE, I could FEEL the connection between my heart and my brain instinctively because I had a very heightened energy field. My heart, through emotions felt during my NDE were sending messages to my brain causing my body to vibrate at a very high level. My intuition was so heightened; I knew I was feeling other people’s emotions both positive and negative affecting my own energy field. My NDE helped me become AWARE of this, but every human body has the same capabilities. I am sure you have experienced this if you stop to think about a situation in your own life. Have you ever walked into a room and knew RIGHT away that something was terribly wrong even though you didn’t know the people? That’s a simplistic story of how your heart is sending signals to your brain and sometimes sends us right out that door!

I had NO idea about this discovery until I was blessed to hear Gregg Braden speak at the Celebrate Your Life Conference this past November in Scottsdale, Arizona. I was able to meet and talk with him. This is something we’ve learned since the publication of our book, The Light GAP: God’s Amazing Presence. We both had read many of Gregg Braden’s books and had heard him lecture in the past, but now he is helping us thread spirituality and science together. He’s a brilliant scientist who is known internationally as a pioneer in bridging science with indigenous knowledge. He threads spirituality into all of his work. He is also well known for traveling to Tibet. He is working with translators of ancient texts found in the Monasteries in villages untouched by outside influences for countless centuries. He is attempting to put his work into lectures, tours, and online webinars to help every day people like you and me. Fellow scientists and medical professionals seek him out. He is helping physicians understand the body’s natural healing abilities as more information is discovered scientifically. And he is helping individuals realize that our bodies are totally amazing if we tap into the intelligence stored in the heart ~ that communicates with our brain!

He talks about the honor of working with the founders, staff and researchers at the Institute of HeartMath for over two decades. I spent a lot of time recently studying all of their research on their website! Both Gregg Braden and The HeartMath Institute are slightly complicated to read, but there is amazing information there! They quote all of their research. Their board and founders are all PhD’s in their fields. They are doing amazing projects giving to communities in need of their expertise. It’s very impressive.

There is so much to share! But, today I am going to share a technique that has been amazing for ME personally. I use this as part of my early morning meditations and then at any moment in my day when something is all of a sudden stressful! Wow…my body immediately responds and I can become calm in less than a minute. I attribute this small easy to do activity to Gregg Braden who taught this to his audience during his lecture. I learned from the expert! In reality he credits this to the HeartMath Insititute who is teaching so much to the general public through their generous non-profit organization. Their website calls this the Quick Coherence Technique. Gregg Braden has shared the whole theory behind why it works in his book we have quoted above. And yes, HeartMath is all one word!

Here is how it can help you: It reduces stress right in the moment. It brings positive, focused and calm thoughts. It energizes your body. You can access creativity, intuition and higher-level decision-making. It keeps your body from sending harmful chemicals to your body.

Health TIP You Can Use!

I believe that Gregg Braden modified it slightly and I too have added a little of my own technique. Gregg states that the monks in Tibet have been using this for 5,000 years! The monks tell us the emotion of compassion is what connects all of us to each other when we pray! The “energy” field around us changes when our heart and brain connect through feelings! You can think of this as a prayer. Feelings are the language of the soul.

  1. Take a very deep breath first. Standing or sitting…makes no difference.
  2. Stop, close your eyes, and help your brain think of any positive loving caring person or act. Say the words: Compassion, gratitude, care, appreciate, LOVE.
  3. Slow your breathing as much as possible.
  4. Tap or gently rub the crown of the head
  5. In a circular motion rub the area on the forehead known as the 3rd eye (between eyebrows)
  6. Rub your heart center very gently in a circular motion while saying the words
  7. It’s the FEELING inside your heart that begins the communication with your brain.

For ME, I find that it is even MORE powerful when I am out in nature! God created in our bodies some pretty amazing tools for us to use to create our own health! We highly recommend you go to this link to read the REAL experts!
