EMOTIONS in our Prayer Life: Part 3

If you missed our blog last week, you might want to go back and read Part 2. It will help you understand the background information. Here is a link for you to find it easily. Part 2

We know that prayer can be a vital tool. Could it be that we have more work to do than just say words? Marj and I have both found and used many tools that help prayer become powerful in our lives. The “Fruit” of the soul discussed in the Bible, may provide key emotions that we are not only wanting in our lives, but actually already live within us.

“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.” Galatins 5:22.

God is always there waiting for us to go within and feel these emotions internally. But way too often we reach up and pick one from our “conditional thoughts” like anxiety, guilt, regret or judgment. Our mind can create negativity due to our complicated lives. These emotions are other names for fear. God never meant for us to live in fear. We CAN pick the most delicious FRUIT by looking and listening within our soul as God intended!

Five  STEPS to help use PRAYER to drive your emotions instead of your subconscious mind!
  1. In the quiet of your mind, read some inspiring literature, the Bible, other ancient text’s wisdom, or a daily devotion that resonates with you! We are ALL motivated differently by God’s design. Each of us came to GROW our souls and we are on different paths.
  2. Use music to stimulate your inner guidance and clear blockages in the chakras of your body. * See The Light GAP: God’s Amazing Presence 188-189.
  3. If time permits, use our Integrated Spiritual Workout ( pg. 192) to stretch your body and move life giving energy throughout your body. Let deep breathing bring oxygen to every cell and let your mind decompress thoughts! Notice your emotions, and send love to every one of them. Send love to fear. Set aside negative emotions resulting from life experiences for this prayer time. I have a handy box where I keep slips of paper with my thoughts and emotions written on them to revisit when I feel the need. Give yourself love, your thoughts & emotions are yours, but you can replace them if you choose. You might find negative ones are GONE when you emerge from this type of prayer. Give yourself the LUXURY of God’s infused joy, peace, strength, courage, gratitude, humility, and love. All wrapped in total compassion.
  4. If you are really upset about something and are unable to sit quietly at all, we highly recommend the use of TAPPING first! This is a practice originally called EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique. It uses the meridian lines in your body. The tapping points correspond to acupuncture points. We wrote about this in our book. You can find great information with demonstration videos by visiting Nick Ortner’s website, thetappingsolution.com. If this is new to you, don’t hesitate to write to us and we are happy to answer questions.
  5. Let yourself BE love, compassion, gratitude, and peace using your inner strength and courage as you let your body enjoy stillness. FEEL your prayer already answered. Visualize and use all of your senses to feel it in your body. Use words that fit YOU, but not words like I hope or I wish that…because they express doubt. Surrender the result to God. Thank Him for answering your prayer…gratitude and forgiveness are key. Just ENJOY quiet with no agenda. It has amazing POWER.

Afterwards, take note how much more calm and peaceful you feel. Smile with gratitude and laugh out loud! Some days this love found within permeates my body all day as I walk through all of life’s challenges. When a stressful event hits me that day, I take a deep breath and slow my breathing. Then I gently touch my heart center in a circular motion or tapping lightly to remind me of the love held within.  My body reacts immediately. Research has linked a regular practice of meditation and prayer to reduced levels of anxiety and stress, in addition to improved immune function and a host of other health benefits! Being out in daily LIFE is where we need to be and this gentle reminder soothes me all day! I must have picked some very DELICIOUS fruit!
